Democracy or hypocrisy?

Devon Council Council bank with Barclays, the worst bank in Europe for funding fossil fuels. At the same time, they are advising us to choose green banking as a way to combat the climate emergency!

“Finding banks with a strong ethical investment policy is an amazing way to make sure that your money is not causing harm to the planet.”

Is this democracy or hypocrisy? We need your help to join an action to get Devon County Council to change banks.  Please start by sending a letter to your councillor, as explained here.  Let’s write to all Councillors in Devon before the next council meeting on 7th September.

To highlight Devon County Council’s poor financial arrangements we are planning a march and demonstration at the next full council meeting on Thursday 7th September.

The timings for the day are:

💰 12.15pm – Meet outside Barclays Bank in the centre of Exeter (3 Bedford Street) with placards, banners, etc.  There will be flyers to give out and we will have the support of the XR Devon Drummers.

💰 12.30pm – Start marching to County Hall.

💰 1.15pm – Arrive at County Hall to greet councillors.

💰 2.15pm – Council meeting.  We hope that at least one Green councillor will propose a motion that Devon County Council stops using Barclays Bank. A question will also be asked from a member of the public.
