Dear Rebel

This is our last newsletter of 2022 and features a summary of all the forthcoming meeting dates, which takes us up to the first week of January. There have been some important and powerful actions and efforts from Exeter Rebels over the past year, which are the product of a lot of hard work from committed local people. We were also delighted to celebrate the opening of the Hub in November, which is a dedicated community space for meeting and planning. Watch Climate Emergency Centre Opening Ceremony video here.

As we all know, 2023 will require our sustained attention, effort, and mobilisation, particularly as we work towards next year’s peak action points (more on these to follow in the New Year).

In the meantime, all the best for a restful and restorative festive period.

As usual, keep an eye on the local website (now looked after by lewissxr@proton.me and Facebook page for updates between newsletters.

Hope in the bleaker times

Anchor Circle

Thursday 1 December, 7-9pm, Climate Action Hub, 40,Bedford Square.

The XR Exeter Anchor Circle meets every 4 weeks.

The subject matter on 1 December will be the 100 Days Project, which aims at getting 100,000 people to London in April.

Local Group Meet Up

7-9pm, Thursday 15 December, Exeter Climate Emergency Centre, 40 Bedford Street, Exeter, EX11GJ. There will be plenty of time for discussion, both formally and then to chat with tea, coffee and cake.

South West Water – exert your shareholder influence

If you applied to be a WaterShare holder from the Pennon Group PLC who own South West Water, don’t forget that to attend the AGM etc. we need to apply for shares each year.

‘Applications for Pennon shares opens at 9am on Monday 5 December and closes at 5pm on Friday 23 December. If you register for a share after that date you will not receive a share but you will receive a £13 credit to your water bill.’ Email 18/11.2022. Given the current state of our water ways it would be good to have a say in 2023 no matter how little.

Police Liaison Training

There’s a callout for volunteers to be trained as Police Liaison. It’s mainly aimed at experienced Rebels who can be at local actions where there is no dedicated PL person present. The training will be about 2 hours, online, and the date will be fixed according to the convenience of those interested. Find out more or express an interest to Devon and Cornwall Police Liaison Richard Ecclestone rle2rtr@gmail.com
