Devon County Council

10am FRIDAY 25 FEBRUARY County Hall, Topsham Road, Exeter, EX2 4QD

🚫🛢️ On 25th February the Devon County Council Pension and Investment Fund Committee will be meeting at County Hall – and we will be there to demand that they  Divest NOW!
💚🎏💃🔥✊ This time they won’t be able to ignore us!  Bring your love, rage, banners, flags and placards (we’ll have some spares), and be prepared for the spectacle of the Burning Ballroom (wear black clothes that can have patches pinned on if you want to join in).
🤯 3 years after declaring a Climate Emergency, Devon County Council’s Pension Fund still has over £100million invested in fossil fuels!  That’s our council tax and council employee’s wages fuelling the climate crisis.😕 Last September the council agreed to move some of its remaining passive investments in fossil fuels into ‘Paris aligned’ funds, but this is far from full divestment.😡 Last November the DCC Pension & Investment Fund Committee completely watered down a motion on full divestment brought by Green Party Councillor Jacqi Hodgson.
⏰ ⛽ This is despite the International Energy Agency saying last May there was no place for new fossil fuel projects if we want to reach net zero by 2050, and at best investment in clean energy by oil and gas companies was little more than 4% of their capital expenditure in 2020. DCC say they can engage with oil and gas companies but this is pure fantasy. They need to follow the example of ABP, one of the world’s largest pension funds, which recently announced it would fully divest by 2023.
If you’re a member of the Devon Pension Scheme please also consider joining the Members Annual Consultative Meeting being held later in the day at 2.15pm, in person at County Hall or online, and tell them why you don’t want your money funding fossil fuels.  Details here:https://www.devonpensionfund.org.uk/governance/annual-consultative-meeting/
