Our first newsletter of 2023 resumes with important news about the 100 Days Campaign. More below on how to find out and influence actions over a 3-4 month period beginning spring this year.

XR Exeter 100 Days:
find out what it’s all about!

Everyone is welcome to come and find out more about more about the XR UK 100 Days campaign, and to help shape plans for what Exeter Local Group will be doing over the next 3 or 4 months. Bring with you any burning questions you have, and also be ready to share ideas for what the local group could do to support and make 100 Days a success. Biodiversity
April Rebellion Action Planning
Saturday 7 January, 10am-12noon at the Climate Action Hub, 40 Bedford Street.
The group’s aim is to raise the profile of the ecological crisis alongside the climate crisis at the April Rebellion by organising a day dedicated to wildlife. With flags, banners, fancy dress, the group will discuss actions to raise awareness of biodiversity loss, the industries and government policies causing it, and the solutions like the campaign to make ecocide an international crime and the wildlife protections we need. Exeter Community Alliance
There is an Exeter Community Alliance meeting on Monday 9 January at the Hub at 6pm. We’ll be discussing how to use and run the Hub. The Facebook event https://www.facebook.com/events/6307684219261115 will have more info.

Post-Christmas Crafting
3.30-5.30pm, Wednesday 11 Jan 2023, Exeter Climate Action Hub in Princesshay, 40 Bedford Street, EX1 1GJ Exeter XR Families invite you to an after school craft session. Bring your non-recyclable Christmas waste (cards, wrapping paper, used crackers etc) and get creative with us!

Police Liaison Training
There’s a callout for volunteers to be trained as Police Liaisons. It’s mainly aimed at experienced Rebels who can be at local actions where there is no dedicated PL person present. The training will be about 2 hours, online, and the date will be fixed according to the convenience of those interested. Dirty Water campaign
Watch this space for news of the 1st wave of the Dirty Water camaign where groups across the UK shine a light on MPs who blocked the amendment to the Environment Act forcing water companies to “demonstrate improvements in the sewerage systems and progressive reduction in the harm caused by untreated sewage discharges”… It will involve awarding blue plaques to local MPs on 28 January.

Exeter Phoenix cafe/bar, Wednesday 4, 11, 18 & 25 January 2023, 10.30 – 12 noon.
Come and talk to others who share your concerns, and maybe have a coffee or two.
The Climate Cafe will also be meeting at the Hub on the first Friday of each month starting on 6 January 2023, from 10.30 til 12.

New Rebel Introduction to XR session
Thursday 5 January 2023, 6.30-7.30pm

This is an Introduction for new Rebels, returning Rebels or anyone who is curious about XR. It is intended to inform people of Extinction Rebellion’s Demands, Principles and how new Rebels can best get involved in XR locally and nationally. Contact Maurice Spurway for further info.
This is followed by the XR social at City Gate Pub, Iron Bridge, North Street, should you wish to join (7.30-10pm).
