Dear Rebel

There is plenty of opportunity for meet ups in the second half of November, as well as further Non-Violent Direct Action training, which has returned thanks to popular demand.

We also celebrate the official opening of the Climate Hub (more below!), we anticipate the Cl!mate Fresk workshop, and begin our work on the 100 Days Project.

As usual, keep an eye on the local website and Facebook page for updates between newsletters.

XR local group meet up

The next gathering will be 7-9pm, Thursday 17, Cimate Action Hub, 40 Bedford Square, EX1 1GJ. November. There will be plenty of time for discussion, both formally and then in chats with tea, coffee, cakes and such like. This meeting will begin discussion about how we will approach the challenge of the 100 Days Project.

Non-Violent Direct Action training (NVDA)

The training will be at the Climate Action Hub, 40 Bedford Square, EX1 1GJ, on Saturday 26 November from 2pm – 5.30pm.

Learn alongside others about the history of Civil Resistance, theories of Non-Violence, and Non -Violent Direct Action skills such as passive resistance techniques, how to talk to the police and the public, and how to use your support systems. Experience the power of support as you practice these skills during the afternoon. Find out where you will feel most confident playing your part – all roles are vital.

No prior knowledge is needed, just a fierce love of our planet and a sincere desire to protect all life.

Whether you’re new to XR, interested in the movement or a seasoned Rebel wanting a refresher before an action, this will be an afternoon well spent.

This training will not cover in detail your legal rights or what it’s like to be arrested. There will be plenty of opportunity to learn more both online and in person. Look out for ‘Know Your Rights’ training, or visit Homepage | Informed Dissent for more information on these topics.

Register for the event here:

There will be a kettle for drinks and vegan refreshments. Please bring your own water bottle. Good idea for people to bring their own mugs if possible.

C!mate Fresk Workshop

Monday 28 November, Climate Hub, 40 Bedford Square

Want to help tackle climate change but don’t have the time to become a climate scientist? In just 3 hours, the collaborative Cl!mate Fresk workshop will teach you the fundamental science behind climate change and empower you to take action.

In order to take action and build solutions, we first need to understand the problem. Cl!mate Fresk is the most powerful tool for providing a quality climate education that is accessible to anyone and can be scaled quickly within an organisation or community. Places are limited, so please register on Eventbrite. Tickets are free but we ask for a small donation on the night to cover the facilitator’s travel expenses. This is the first Cl!mate Fresk workshop to be held at the Hub, once we have Exeter based facilitators we will be running them regularly and taking them out to local businesses.

Anchor Circle

Thursday 1 December, 7-9pm, Climate Action Hub, 40,Bedford Square.

The XR Exeter Anchor Circle meets every 4 weeks.

The Climate Action Hub official opening

James Brown, paralympian, climate activist and patron of the Climate Action Hub will be opening the Hub. Kimwei, the Grand Bard of Exeter will have a ceremonial role. There will be a ribbon cutting, cake and (bring your own) drink.

The date is known as ‘Black Friday’ when the retail business goes into overdrive. It is also ‘Green Friday’ which is a more sustainable alternative, and groups in Exeter will be promoting the concept of making your own gifts. If you would like to help on the Friday or have ideas for what we can do at the opening, please let us know by emailinc chris@climateactionhubexeter. Please also let us know if you’d like to come along so we have an idea of numbers.
