Date for your diary

Friday 21st April 2023

It is the big one: it is the moment that we bring 100,000 people to Parliament to demand action.

See https://extinctionrebellion.uk/next-uk-rebellion/

Reaching Out: But to achieve that we have 202 days to recruit many more Rebels in Exeter and beyond.

So we need to concentrate every sinew of our being towards that mobilisation. We have found that Doorknocking and our Pink Table stalls will achieve this. But we do need more Rebels to help (it’s more fun and fulfilling than you might think)… If you would like to play a part in this major endeavour, please contact Maurice mauricetspurway@gmail.com

Or you could put your name down now…

We always do this work in teams, so there will always be plenty of support for new Rebels.

Please bring your own flask/water.

We would like to start the training promptly at 7pm – so please do arrive 5 to 10 minutes early to find a seat and get settled ready to begin at seven. We finish at 9pm.

Please contact Sharon directly sdpavey@gmail.com to let her know if you can attend.

XR Meeting

The next gathering will be 7-10pm, Thursday 20 October.

The content of this session is yet to be confirmed and will be available in the second October newsletter. There will be plenty of time for discussion, both formally and then in chats with tea, coffee, cakes and such like.

Climate Action Hub, 40 Bedford Square EX1 1GJ

XR Biodiversity Group

The next meeting of the Extinction Rebellion Exeter Biodiversity Group has been arranged for Monday the 3 October at 6:30pm at the Climate Action Hub (40 Bedford Street, EX1 1GJ). Please note that while the Climate Hub has access to nearby toilets it doesn’t yet have drinks facilities, so please bring your own bottle of water or flask of tea.

There are two main topics for the meeting. The first is following up on the excellent ideas generated at last week’s biodiversity gathering, where a People’s Assembly discussed the question:

‘How does the Biodiversity group best facilitate for all local people the ‘head’ (understanding how vital biodiversity is, & why/how ecology works), the ‘heart’ (opportunities for positive experiences connected to nature, growing emotional attachment), and the ‘hands’ (getting involved in nurturing/improving biodiversity, both locally and nationally)?

The second main topic is the biodiversity group’s communications, with a demonstration of comms tech and help with getting biodiversity crew signed up, logged in and posting, in person.

Hope to see you there!

100 Days’ Plan Zoom for all Rebels, 7pm, 4 October

This is an exciting plan that moves us from October through to next April, it fits in with exiting groups’ plans. It is national plan, but originated here in the South West. Please invite everyone in your groups to this zoom. It is instead of a Devon groups / coords meeting. Zoom link:

Exeter Climate Action Hub, 40 Bedford Street, Princesshay, EX1 1GJ
This is an Introduction for new Rebels, returning Rebels or anyone who is curious about XR. It is intended to inform people of Extinction Rebellion’s Demands, Principles and how new Rebels can best get involved in XR locally and nationally. Contact Maurice Spurway for further info.
This is followed by the XR social at 7.30-10pm, City Gate Pub

Anchor Circle Meeting

7pm, Friday 6 October, Climate Action Hub, 40 Bedford Square EX1 1GJ

Anchor Circle Meetings are open to all. The Anchor Circle is where we ensure the smooth running of the local group. It meets every four weeks to discuss plans for the next few weeks, address any issues that have arisen, and acts as a coordinating group for all the other local working groups. It also links to the regional and national XR organisation, and to other local community groups.

Everyone is welcome.
