Hello Rebel!

Thank you for bearing with us while we managed the integration of the newsletter into Action Network. We are aware that not all Rebels received our last newsletter, but we are hopeful that issues has been resolved. If your twice-monthly emails are turning up in your promotion tab, do mark them as ‘safe’ so you don’t miss out on all the latest!

This newsletter reminds us of some of the regular online offerings available to Rebels, new and old, local and national, a well as some local training at Maketank in Exeter coming up in June. The regular talks and training events can be accessed via the cloud, which includes UK-wide events updates.

As always, you can visit the Exeter XR Facebook page or Exeter Forum – and website – for the latest updates as they happen.

XR comms training workshop

14 June, 6pm at Maketank on Paris Street

The session will start with an introduction to the ‘new’ tools that XR UK introduced in 2019 to replace Basecamp. This will cover UK Forum, UK Cloud, Mattermost and the hub. We will also discuss how Signal, Telegram, newsletters, social media and email fit into the setup and how we can try to avoid the plethora of communication channels by discussing how each should be used.

We will then look at individuals’ problems that they have either setting up or using the various platforms.
Anyone not yet on the new platforms that wants to be can be set up before the session – please email onboarding@extinctionrebellionexeter.org.
Please do let us know if you are planning on coming at the above email.

Exeter Anchor Circle meeting

Intro to the third demand

Online, 7.30-8.30 2nd June

Extinction Rebellion has three demands, but the Third Demand remains the least understood and least talked about. So let’s change that! Come to our talk to find out about the Third Demand: a government commissioned, independently run, UK-wide Citizens’ Assembly on Climate Ecological Justice.

XR UK’s Citizens’ Assembly Working Group will take you through the basics on citizens’ assemblies and why XR believes we need one to help us navigate the climate and ecological emergency.

The talks lasts for about half an hour after which you can ask us questions, share your concerns, and tell us your ideas.

Everyone is free to attend!

The climate and ecological crisis is worse than we feared, and the future is more uncertain than ever. The time to act is now… so let’s get prepared! Come along to our Non-Violent Direct Action (NVDA) workshop, where you will learn about the history of Civil Disobedience, theories of Non-Violence, and various NVDA skills such as how to talk to the police, how to block a road, and how to use your support systems. This workshop takes 3 hours, and includes 2 x 15 minute breaks – please arrive on time! There will be lots of information to learn, and chances to engage interactively with this information – it’s a good idea to bring a pen and paper.

No prior knowledge is needed. There is a lot of information to learn in this, and we will be signposting other trainings throughout – the key workshops we want you to go to as part of our ‘Road to Rebellion’ are the Know Your Rights trainings, and the Affinity Group Formation Workshops (more information about these will be discussed in the workshop itself).
