Unite to survive – Community Alliance building meeting
7-9pm, Thursday 26 January, Exeter Climate Action Hub, 40 Bedford Street, Princesshay, EX1 1GJ
On 26 February, various groups and organisations with links to Exeter will come together to discuss plans to unite for a fairer society and a citizen-led end to the fossil fuel era.
Numerous intersecting UK crises – climate, biodiversity loss, NHS, cost of living, waves of widespread strike action, etc – are increasingly leading people to say enough is enough. Petitions and letters have proved to be ineffective over the past 30 years, leading some national organisations to call for more urgent action.
The 100 days campaign is a movement of movements, inviting all humans, all movements, all organisations to come together around the Houses of Parliament from 21 April onwards to bring about the sustainable change required, and the Exeter Community Alliance is now inviting local groups to unite around this campaign.
Which local groups would like to be involved? How can we help each other to promote the various but interlinked causes? What do we want to do together in the 100 day countdown towards 21 April?

Dirty Water campaign: Blue Plaque Day
On Saturday 28 January there will be talks and a blue plaque unveiling by the Ship Inn, Teignmouth, to shine a light on the local MP’s failure to protect our rivers and seas from the dumping of raw sewage by South West Water. Gather at 11am at Little Triangle for a procession through the town to the Ship Inn. Read more
There will also be a blue plaque going up at Exeter quay on Saturday morning – if you want to join us, meet at 9am. This will be followed by the trip to Teignmouth on the 10:25 train. Talk about the Media
7pm, Thursday 16 February, Climate Action Hub 60 Bedford St EX1 1GJ.
Caspar Hughes is co-director of the Climate Media Coalition. He says, “Without confronting and tackling the media pillar we won’t be able to meet our climate targets of a safe and peaceful future for our children”. The session is followed by a Q&A and participants will divide into groups to think about what we can do locally and encourage nationally.

Film at the Hub – The Oil Machine
…Followed by a discussion with Tim Lenton, James Dyke and Sarah Finch. 6.30pm, 17 February, Climate Action Hub 60 Bedford St EX1 1GJ
How can we break our addition to oil? Join us for an inspiring screening and conversation about our energy future.
The Oil Machine explores our economic, historical and emotional entanglement with fossil fuels by looking at the conflicting imperatives around North Sea oil & gas. This invisible machine at the core of our economy and society now faces an uncertain future as activists and investors demand change. Is this the end of oil?
The film brings together a wide range of voices from oil company executives, economists, young activists, oil workers, pension fund managers, and considers how this machine can be tamed, dismantled or repurposed. climate targets of a safe and peaceful future for our children”. Followed by a Q&A and thinking about what we can do locally and encourage nationally. The panel will consist of local climate scientists Tim Lenton and James Dyke and Sarah Finch who has a landmark case being heard shortly at the Supreme Court

Exeter Climate Cafe
Exeter Phoenix cafe/bar, Wednesday 25 January 2023, 10.30 – 12 noon (and then 1, 8, 15 & 22 February).
Come and talk to others who share your concerns, and maybe have a coffee or two.
The Climate Cafe will also be meeting at the Hub on the first Friday of each month with the next meeting being Friday 3 February, 2023, from 10.30 til 12.

New Rebel Introduction to XR session
Thursday 2 February 2023, 6.30-7.30pm
Exeter Climate Action Hub, 40 Bedford Street, Princesshay, EX1 1GJ
This is an Introduction for new Rebels, returning Rebels or anyone who is curious about XR. It is intended to inform people of Extinction Rebellion’s Demands, Principles and how new Rebels can best get involved in XR locally and nationally. Contact Maurice Spurway for further info.
To be confirmed for this date, intros are typically followed by the XR social at City Gate Pub, Iron Bridge, North Street, should you wish to join (7.30-10pm).
